Part 2 of the Wig-Wag steam engine build series - join me as I build the original vertical Wig-Wag engine in a step-by-step process to make this simple single acting wobbler engine Milling Pallet for the lathe - 🤍 PLANS: 🤍 Facebook Page: 🤍 About Me... I started model engineering and building model stationary steam engines in 2015, after constructing a small engineering workshop in my back yard, I use a Myford ML7 hobby lathe, a Dore Westbury milling machine, along with a pillar drill, band-saw and the usual hand-tools associated with hobby engineering and enjoy making model engines and general tool-making and metalworking. Nearly all of my engines are scratch-built without drawings, from available bar-stock, starting from an initial idea and allowing the design to evolve throughout the build process. I do occasionally use drawings from the web, as a basis for a design, and then modify it to suit my needs, using mostly metric dimensions, but often mix metric and imperial. I spend countless hours in my workshop working on a single engine, and much frustration can be involved, but all this is eventually offset by the pleasure and excitement of seeing my model engines take shape and eventually come to life. My shed is also my sanctuary, somewhere I can go and forget about the worries of everyday life, to occupy my mind and hands with something creative and fulfilling, where I am free from distraction and interruption. On the morning of Friday, March 11th, 2022, I set out to capture footage of the only operating wig wag in Illinois (and I believe anywhere in the Midwest?) on the CO&E in Marion, IL. In the first of two clips, the CO&E returns as light power from dropping two centerbeams at the BNSF interchange track on the west side of town. The engine crosses 4th street, passing the old wig wag signal itself. Then, we see the engine crossing Monroe Street and then being put back into the engine house for the day. Note the heavily falling snow as the train pulls in, making for a nice wintry looking scene. The CO&E operates over a former Illinois Central line. Special thanks to conductor Beasley for providing timely information on the train's whereabouts on this day. I think it was worth the two hour drive, there and back. Enjoy! © 2022

How to Tie Dye a Winter Wig-Wag Tie Dye T-Shirt! Tie Dye Tutorial Tie Dye #Shorts #tiedye #riahstiedye
Tie-dye pattern - Wig-Wag T-Shirt Tutorial (Liquid Dye) project instructions. 1. T-Shirt has been washed and soaked in soda ash (1 cup soda ash per 1 gallon of warm water) for 20 minutes then spun out in the washer so the material is damp but not dripping wet. 2. Fold t-shirt in half making sure to smooth out and remove as many creases as possible. Now with a washable marker tied to piece of string (I just used sinew) draw on your wig-wag design following the video instructions. 3. Pleat fold your wig-wag lines and the rest of the shirt following the video instructions and secure with rubber bands. 4. Choose your dye colors. For my tie-dye wig-wag t-shirt I chose Power Berry, Concord Grape, Lavender, Wisteria, Hot Hibiscus, Deep Orange, Deep Yellow, and Bright Yellow. Follow mixing instructions for the specific dye you use for your project and dye your t-shirt following the video instructions. 5. Allow your project to sit undisturbed for 24 hours then rinse starting with cold water to remove the soda ash. Increase water temperature to warm/hot while squeezing the material to remove the excess dye. 6. Remove your rubber bands and open your new Tie-dye Wig-Wag T-Shirt! 10. Wash t-shirt by itself with hot water (I use Synthrapol Textile Detergent) without fabric softener and hang dry for the first time. After that wash and dry like normal. 11. The vintage railroad crossing signals were refurbished and re-installed. On July 28, 2019, the Point Richmond community in the City of Richmond, CA had a celebration on the restoration of the Wig Wags, two historic train crossing signals that have been part of the community for more than a century. The piece features Karen Buchanan, the Co-Chair of the Wig Wag Celebration Committee, and Dan Furtado, the man responsible for the restoration, as well as remarks from Tom Butt, the Mayor of the City of Richmond. Edited by KCRT's Christian Wimmer.

Check out this tutorial where we show you how to make a peacock wig-wag tie-dye shirt. This video is longer than usual and some sections are sped up quite a bit. Making this design can take a few hours of folding and dyeing and requires great meticulousness. To make a peacock wig-wag, start by folding the shirt in half vertically. Using a round object (in this case a roll of duct tape) trace a half-circle on the center of the fold. Pleat the shirt in an arc while following the line. You need to make very small and consistent pleats for best results. Continue pleating until the whole lenght of the shirt is folded neatly. Use rubber bands as you pleat to hold the shirt in place. You can trace lines on the folded shirt to serve as a guide during the dyeing stage. When you're ready, dye a thin line on the shirt in a zig-zag pattern on all it's length. Repeat the zig-zag pattern with the colors of your choice until the whole side is covered in color. Flip the shirt over and dye it's underside in the same manner as you did previously. 𝐈𝐧-𝐝𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐢𝐞-𝐝𝐲𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 🤍 👕 𝐐𝐮𝐢𝐜𝐤 𝐭𝐢𝐞-𝐝𝐲𝐞 𝐭𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥 👕 𝟏) 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐚 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐭 Start with a clean 100% cotton blank white shirt. Soak the shirt in water then wring it out. Leave it slightly damp. 𝟐) 𝐌𝐢𝐱 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐝𝐲𝐞𝐬 Using 8oz (230ml) bottles Measure and add your dye powder first. Add 1 teaspoon of soda ash to the bottle. Fill the bottle with water and shake well. Don't mix too much at one time - the solution only stays good for a few hours. 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡 - 𝐃𝐲𝐞 𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐲 Pastel - 1/20 tsp (0,1g) Soft - 1/8 tsp (1g) Medium - 1/2 tsp (4g) Strong - 1 tsp (8g) Powerful - 2 tsp (16g) 𝟑) 𝐅𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐛𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐭 Choose your favorite technique and follow the folding process. Pleat, crumple, and fold your way to success. When you're done, bind the shirt using rubber bands or string to secure it in place. 𝟒) 𝐃𝐲𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐭 Using your dye bottle, apply the dye gently over the shirt. Use your favorite technique or let loose your creativity, there's no wrong way to do it! 𝟓) 𝐋𝐞𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐲𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐭 Leave the shirt in a warm room. The dye reacts better at a temperature of 70°F (20°C) or more. Let the dye react for 8 hours or overnight. 𝟔) 𝐑𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐭 Rinse your shirt in the sink under cold running water. Open up the shirt while rinsing. Continue rinsing and washing by hand until the shirt stops bleeding. Soak the shirt in warm water to remove any remaining dye. 𝟕) 𝐖𝐚𝐬𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐭 Machine wash the shirt by itself or with other tie-dye shirts for the first wash. Cold wash with a small amount of detergent. After the first time, you can wash your tie-dye shirt with other pieces of clothing. Installed by the C&NW in the 1920s, and surviving nearly one hundred years later, its time has finally come. The last wig-wag in the state of Wisconsin bowed out in December of 2020. Here's one last look at a classic sentinel of safety, with a quick cameo by the Sheboygan local (it passed through here only two more times before the signals disappeared). This was a tough shoot with 25-30mph sustained winds, lots of overhead wires, cramped quarters, and frequent vehicular traffic. Most the drone clips were slow-mo'ed using ffmpeg before dropping into the editing booth. Special thanks to Chris Guss for the intel. Enjoy!

In this video I demonstrate how to tie-dye a Wig-Wag Alternative #4 pattern (Irish Flag Colors) on a t-shirt. As always the t-shirt has first been washed and soaked in soda ash (1 cup of soda ash per 1 gallon of warm water) and then spun out in the washer so that the material is damp but not sopping wet. With the t-shirt still damp, I begin this tie-dye tutorial with the folding and rubber banding of the t-shirt. For the next step I apply the chosen liquid dye colors (shown in the video) to the t-shirt, and then let the t-shirt sit undisturbed for 24 hours to allow the dye time to set into the fabric and bond with the t-shirt. After the 24 hours are up, I give the t-shirt a good rinse while squeezing the material to remove all of the excess dye. Now to finish up it's time to remove the rubber bands and reveal our new Tie Dye Wig-Wiag Alternative #4 - Irish Flag Colors t-shirt! I volunteer at the Western Pacific Railroad Museum, so since we have a functional Wigwag on display, I figured the next logical step would be to make it coin operated! wplives.org

Part 8 of the Wig-Wag steam engine build series - Join me as I build the original Wig-Wag engine in a step-by-step process to make this simple single acting wobbler engine - Support my Channel - buy me a coffee! 🤍 :) PLANS: 🤍 Facebook Page: 🤍 SUPPORT MY CHANNEL: 🤍 About Me...
